Do You Need A CB?

Sure the use of the CB radio has changed since the 80's,when i started driving.The chatter now is sure different then it used to be.I always found it a big help-n hope ive helped other's,directions,avoiding boredom,smokey locations was a big one.Now a day's,seems folks are listening to music w/them things stuck in there ears.I used to listen to the sounds of the truck-motor,always had the CB on-could care less about the stereo.
That cobra-bluetooth is sure handy when the phone call is important-just reach up n hit that little blue button,still have both hands to operate the rig.10-4 on that.

 

I know I'm beating a dead horse, trying to convince new drivers, and some old to at least leave the CB on low... But I swear a few more kicks and this horse will listen LOL

I can't count how many times, my CB and another good driver has saved my arse, from what could be a career ending accident. Not to mention all the time I've saved getting around traffic, local info, or keeping yourself awake with conversation for that final 100 mile stretch.

And I'm haunted by a few accidents that I tried to warn on-coming traffic about, without reply, and watch in my mirror for brake lights... none. I know for a fact in one of the accidents, that if the on-coming driver had his CB on, a now 24 yr old girl would still be alive.

It pisses me off, that a slight turn of the RF gain, or squelch is too inconvenient for some. Even in the best road conditions, under the amber lights of city highways, and if your able to slow to 40mph in time... "bodies ejected still look like accident debris", was the claim the driver made to state troopers. I'm positive he is right, and sure he was a competent driver, I would have done the same and tried to straddle the debris/girl. But it so angers me that he had a tool that could have prevented this but chose to not be bothered by its noise, at the cost of the girls life, family's remorse, and forever on his conscience .

 

But but but... if I turn on my CB I might hear something that offends me and that would make me sad.

 

Yeah we don't want you and others crying while driving, it is worse than texting and driving.

 

I believe all trucks should have a CB! If you don't like hearing BS or whatnot, you can always turn your volume down to a minimum. CB radios can be beneficial in letting other drivers know when to slow down for wrecks, and you can get/give directional help to others and such. It definitely doesn't hurt to have one, so if it could help you, why not? If you don't like hearing talk, just turn your volume down and your music up..

 

why are you on this forum then... and do you think that those of us who run our radios all the time care about your opinion

 

A lot of the plants and refineries I go to you need a radio for a call in. I don't like giving out my cell#.
Sometimes I can drive from Jax Fl to Mobile Al and not hear a peep on the radio.
Tried one night to get a drivers attention on I75, his trailer doors were open and swinging in the breeze. I think they stopped him at the chicken house south of Ocala.

 

like I said not seeing a reason for you to be on this forum then at all. never heard of you anyway it's to each is own ......
