A million miles with out an accident is something to be very proud of. It takes a lot of effort to reach that milestone.
I remember when I reached a million accident free miles then the 2nd and then the 3rd million
For me I did not get a company award because I drove for my own company with my own authority but the rewards were great, My insurance cost were 40 to 50% lower then others I knew and good brokers and customers were very happy to offer me very good paying freight. To top it off my equipment had not dings or dents even the truck in my picture the Green Pete had over 1,200,000 miles on it when I sold it with out any damage it looked like a new truck.Going easy, slow and knowing that every other vehicle cars and trucks were a constant danger to avoid. Let us know when you reach 2 million miles,

Been driving 28years, mostly local, 8 years line haul, 15 years at previous employer, I can not get over how anxiety riddled I am about up coming pre trip and road test. I know my job, but also know this is awesome chance and don't want to mess up. Thank you all for this thread!

Lots of miles out of Plainview. They don't drive as far out west as they use to according to veteran drivers but still a ways out.

Normal reaction to wanting a good job. I too have applied and a week ago WM job site shows my application is received, I applied on Dec 14 a day after the job was posted, I have never gone thru a DMV license process since I first started with a Chauffeurs lic back in the 60's I got grandfathered in to the class then CDL license,
I had no problem with the written tests but like you if they call I am a little nervous .
A good pre trip will be easy just cover everything and tell the tester what you are checking as you go along.
For me 99% of what I hauled for the past 18yrs or so was oversized and on an RGN so I had many more things to always check,,most of the time I would not double check I would triple check to make sure all was OK.
For me the road test I worry, as with all some days when backing into a dock you get it exactly on one try but there are days for everyone that it takes a couple tries,
I have always since day one gotten out to look when ever I back up,,was told by an older driver when I started that it is never acceptable to back into anything and if you have to get out and look several times it is OK to be extra careful
I hope I get called because not only does WM pay well and have excellent equipment I have very good safety record and want to work for a company that "Safety Is Most Important" and means something.
I will just not work for just "any" company never had, I'm one of the best so I want to work for one of the best.
Good Luck,,take your time and think about what you are doing!

Funny, the backing will not be my problem, I back up about 23 times a day, into some really tight spots, I'm more concerned with road test with road tractor, haven't been in one in many years, my tractor is twin screw but day cab, thanks for the support and good luck to you as Well! I am leaving one of the best LTL company's around the east coast and been there since they opened, so, yes, a lot of stress! Lol

I was the same way. Watch some pre trip videos to refresh and most importantly relax.

    BigGreenHauler and Ladyk1 Thank this.

One thing to easily miss is the DVIR booklet. I only worked one other job in 25 yrs that used one, otherwise it was always on the back of the log sheets I would use, tear out, throw away, start a new one. I'm so blessed those days are over.

Drivers daily inspection report regs were changed a couple years ago,,A report is only required if there are defects to report,,some companies still want them, As a one truck owner operator motor carrier they were not required, really not a bad deal for companies to still want to use them,,it lets the carrier know that a good pre-trip has been done and for companies that slip seat it holds drivers responsible to report problems,
many years ago I worked for UPS (worst job I ever had quit after 15 months) and it was frustrating to be assigned a tractor or a trailer and find that the driver who had the equipment last did not report defects, I found that they mostly did not report flat tires or lights that did not work,
