To the OP: I would have done the same. I look at it this way-if this is the way he shows up for the job, what is he going to pull once I start rolling? Maybe run out of gas within the first few miles? (Actually had that happen)

Met a Pilot car last week. She was 100 yds in front of the load. Sad part was 1 miles bridge and levee. That should have been shut down, as it was 2 lane bridge no shoulder. And load looked to be 18ft wide. Little fat gal in a beat to death Ford Ranger. I think she had sucked her way to the bottom of the pile.

I could see sending him down the road for signs and flags but a tape measure? Did you need to borrow one lol?

You need a tape measure to make sure high pole is set right.
Even though most drivers have one, the pilot should also have one so they can get their pole set at the proper hgt. not needing to depend on the driver for one. That would be like me asking a pilot car if they had any tie down gear, as I don't.
You come to work with all the proper tools for the job... Just my thoughts

Yeah I was being a little sarcastic there..... Thought the driver may have been mad because he couldn't borrow a tape from the pilot car.

Pretty sure I know how this went down.... You're missing a flag? Ok I have a spare. What? You need a banner too? Cripes man OK I I've a Spare. You need to borrow a tape measure? THAT'S ENOUGH!
