Whats by the mile have to do with anything when being paid hourly is whats being discussed?

 

Ill make it really simple Vancouver to Edmonton according to google maps should take 12 hours of driving time. Lets use a half hour for loading, and a half hour for unloading. For a total of 13 hours for the day.

Now let's say there's some unexpected delays that add an additional 5 hours to that trip. Making this a total of 18 hours for the trip.

Would you pay for the full 18 hours of the trip, or only the 13 hours its should've taken?

 

If I paid you for 13 and it took 18 could I claim that I paid you hourly?

Regardless of breaks it takes a minimum of 12 hours of time to drive.

 

However many hours it takes is that many hours x hourly rate maybe even overtime. It isn't "this job should take you 14 hours, so we will pay you for 14 hours regardless of how many it actually takes". That would be piecemeal work. Non piecemeal work would be the situation it is, some days it's say 12 hours, other days it could be 20. He knows what the average has to be under to remain profitable. That's it. Simple.

 

still forgetting fuel, pre trip, post trip, tire checks
