I have a few questions being a new guy to the operation. I run my own truck, own authority and everything. I am looking at kind of staying local running local loads out 100 miles and back. I have seen lots of posts for this kind of work on the load boards. But I know that they are multiple posts. So, is there really that much local work? Also, to stay on topic, following these loads all day and a load from Denver to Dallas wants to pay 800 bucks. WTF.... Then I saw a load posted this morning for a run from Denver to El Paso, for 900. All of a sudden nobody called on that load and now its 1700, My question then is, How the heck do these brokers all of a sudden come up with another 800 dollars? How in the world do they think they need that much? We have trucks, maintenance, insurance, tires, our time, ETC....Our overhead alone is crazy. Why can't brokers just take their 15% (which is 5% too much anyways) and give us the rest? Human greed is nasty.

If you want to stay local I would start knocking on doors and find some direct shippers. Denver is a pretty dead area at least for open deck freight. It will be tough trying to make it local without direct customers.

Don't know much about Denver.I pull a step and like said earlier Denver is not a good area for flats to try and get out of at least.dont know what trailer you have but if you want to stay local like pnw said you need direct shipper .usally lumber yards, brick yards mulch yards like the bag loads that go to home centers.just some ideas these are usually pretty easy to get in with.

That's the point you tell him 800 more so 2500. Not a customer you want anyways.

its mostly because most have no clue how the shipping side of things work, they call they get quote think WTF either accept or hangup but with better knowledge they could have gotten decent $, rarely do brokers set the rates anymore
