Just depends on what type of operation your running. But whatever the type don't sell yourself short, and remember if you don't ask for it you won't get it.

Had a broker call me today about loading out a press we have in our warehouse. He then asked if I wanted to haul it from White Bluff, TN to Cullman, AL (275 miles) for $800. Single drop legal load, tarped. I declined. On the surface it doesn't sound all that bad but I'd have to deadhead back and would take a long day to get it done, by the time you figure tarping and waiting on them to unload.

So you may clear 500-600 profit after fuel right with a little work.. I don't see the problem with this load help me out a little.. I tarp all the time and can do it 30 min flat and untarp maybe 20-30 plus roll up.. This is a one day job too

Well you're right...stand up to them brokers.....that will ensure the rate p/mile will increase in 2017.

Any body that can fully pad and neatly tarp in 30 mins a press, I would love to see that. Coils or lumber, but not machinery..

See this is why rates are in the crapper. Oh it's a short hop load. I can do it for 2.00 a mile. This is where in our world of heavy haul, you figure day rates, and that little short hopper ld takes 2 days between permit issue times. Waiting for the riggers to show up and setup at both ends.

Andthen they pile all the brackets and the hardware on the trailer. 30 minute tarp job on a machine means the odds are pretty good that you wil destroy the tarps. $800 would be the minimum I'd like to see after expenses. And that's not including tarps.

It should pay and would pay 11 to 1200 easy. It'll tie up a whole day. And if you a local you gonna do a round trip for $800? I think not. It's 550 round trip. Now even my 1100 seems light.
