Hi, I am in the process of signing on with Bruce Oakley. I will be a first time owner operator. I have been a company driver most of my life. Anyone have words of wisdom for me?

Don't spend all the extra money. You need to have money put up for breakdowns. That's the mistake I made when I first became an Owner-op. I went from bringing home 700-900 a week as a company driver to bringing home 2500-3000 a week and increased my life style without putting up breakdown money. I'd say try to have at least 25,000 to 30,000 in another account. That way it'll cover anything from a bad transmission to a engine needing an inframe.

Also, check the truck your purchasing thoroughly. If your getting a regen truck make sure the DPF and def system has been serviced. Those two are a big problem with the newer trucks. I've been here since March and love it.

Thank you Brian. I am in the process of purchasing a 2014 Freightliner. I am trying to secure a loan that is better than the 15% interest that I was quoted.

If it's your first purchase it's difficult to do at times. My first was 26%. But, I also had a low 600 score. But, either way that was a big Ouch. Good luck driver. Hope to see you soon at the Oakley Yard. If you see me say hey. I'm probably the only driver here with a Purple Freight Shaka.

What seems to be the turn around time for applying and getting the call for orientation?

I called before I ever applied so I cant really help you there. I asked for all the literature on the pay and all before I ever applied. If you've applied and haven't heard anything call recruiting. They'll be more than happy to talk to you.

They called Wednesday and seemed eager to get my husband to join but wanted to check references. We know it's a process. We were just hoping he'd make it to the orientation that starts the 9th, if they indeed were going to hire him. He spoke to someone named Kent I believe.
