According to Petro service centers, A retorque after 1st 50 miles on a tire change requires a drivers signature when leaving petro tire shop....why?
Because they can come loose and loss and injury could prevail.
This is the responsibity of the Driver to comply to the notice to stop at another Petro or TA and get them retorqued for no charge. -
Oh really?
Pray tell how do I impact drive those nuts to make sure the arrows end up pointing correctly? I learned something today that is good but also bad in the details I don't yet know. -
There were comments on another thread like this and one mechanic was really offended.
We have an outstanding trailer mechanic. But twice in the last two weeks when he's put a trailer on the ready line it had a flat tire when I pre tripped it.
We had teamster mechanics at CEMEX and a few of those guys were outstanding, a few you wouldn't want to work on your lawn mower. -
When you do the pre-trip you are telling who-ever that the items are in good working order. You are satisfied that the items are safe and are working properly, that's it.

You put them on after they're torqued....they're made from plastic and slide over the lug nut similar to chrome cover. School bus company's, RR and trash service companies are the biggest users around here.

Oh. Thank you kindly.
I feel as if I stepped into a twilight zone here, not trucking but trucking parts. Savvy? I hate to consider chip equipped covers on nuts and such someday taking your fingerprint scans to prove a pretrip... -
I saw that written on a restroom wall one time.x1Heavy Thanks this.

I will say somethings you'll see in a pretrip others you may not. My company uses a trailer repair shop on occasion for certain jobs because we're short mechanics. Our driver was on his way out to Boston for a port run after the trailer just getting out of the shop. I'm not 100% on the details as I was new and training at the time. Either the axle burned up/ came off or had some tires come off. No one was injured however did make this trailer shop prime suspect. Driver never got fired over it.
Touch things where you can. When I was issued the Cascadia I'm in the mounts for the brake chamber were cracked..... two of them had loose u bolts.
