Well at least you were getting paid hourly while spun out....unlike some other so called drivers that shall remain nameless.lol

 

Fair enough it can happen to the best of them.

 

I know how hourly works, and I also know how companies claim to pay hourly but don't.

A lot of picky OTR drivers on here. I spent more than a half century driving north and south of the border and have not run into the problems you guys relate to. Well, most times I have not run into the problems you guys are relating to. I started out with TransAmerica in the early sixties, ran with Trans Canada Express, LakeHead Freightways, SeaSpec, RDA Transport (my favourite), with Bison then with ADL until I retired. (I didn't retire voluntarily. DOT pulled my CDL because of night vision problems)

I wonder how much of the complaining in here is a little bit to the far fetched side of the truth? I do have to agree however that import drivers are causing some upheavals in the trucking industry. Many of the imports consider $2,000. per month big dollars and will gladly accept that rate of pay.

I worked in Libya for a short spell in the 80s and those drivers were making $10.00 for every 14 hrs of driving while eating and pissing on the fly. (yes, they had piss holes in the floor boards of all things) Do you actually think these guys don't see $2,000 per month in Canada as a gold mine? So, why do Canadian trucking companies hire them?

 

If you were a big company say 100 trucks. You had a choice to pay 100 guys $2000 a month or $4000 a month. Remember though you have to be a ruthless bloodsucker who couldn't give two shats who is behind the wheel of your trucks as long as there cheap.

 

We probably crossed paths in the early sixties when you were with TransCanada Highway Express.
