If he was dumping coal, I'll bet that it was Westwood Generation, just west of the exit.

For reference, he was at the far left, and you were at the far right. If the coordinates were accurate.

Sorry, replied to wrong user lol.

It makes it much more difficult believe it or not.
We were struggling to hear each other when I used the PC76.

I can actually believe that but there's something going on there that I think we're all not seeing.

-135db receive made it possible for my Magnum to hear his Cobra 29 and also for his Connex to hear my Uniden PC76. Wouldn't have happened otherwise.

I'd be interested to see if this path is consistently usable. Would also help to know the weather conditions.

    Here are the possible modes:

LOS ground wave - not likely due to terrain (provided that the end point locations are accurate)

Tropospheric ducting - not likely as the frequency used is too low to use that mode.

NVIS - not likely as the frequency used is too high to use that mode.

Knife edge diffraction - not likely because of multiple obstructions and frequency below 30MHz.

Skywave - not likely because the stations are too close together.

Meteor scatter - not likely due to its transient nature.

    Did I miss anything?

Have we successfully hijacked this thread?

But what about background noise? I'd think that you'd be limited by noise pm the receive side.
