    @QuietStorm , @Lepton1

    I have no quarrel with you. I agree with what you say in its entirety. I cannot however stand by while some petulant oo trashes others because of the name on the side of their trucks. Especially when the name on the side of that oo's truck has been responsible for endless numbers of wrecks, roll overs, injuries and deaths. Its not jealousy, its pure lack of caring for him as a person.

    I will say that I do have a negative bias towards fedex contractors. I have been forced onto shoulders several times by those maniacs. I also know that they serve as an important cog in this nations economy. For those of you that do what you do and do it safely, huzzah. I do admit that I am treading on the verge of doing what I am so outspoken against, generalizing an entire company.

    That being said, Im backing out of this thread.

    Golden Rule: There's nothing that pays better than a clean CDL.

    Remember that when driving in hazardous conditions.

    Actually nothing pays better then freight being unloaded off a trailer and that is the only thing that pays.

    FedEx's problem is they're using tandem axle tractors to do a single axle tractor's job. I'm sure many think I'm nuts but I'm telling you that properly spec'd single axle tractors do better in terms of traction and stability on slick roads with pup trailer configurations, than twin screws.

    They (ground contractors) are practically the only fleet in the nation that is primarily tandem tractors pulling doubles. You think it's coincidence they crash almost automatically when the roads get slick? This problem is exacerbated when you consider a pup at FedEx Ground is rarely loaded anywhere near "heavy".

    But just a few days ago I did see a new single axle tractor FedEx Ground contractor truck (Volvo I think, with an extended wheel base). First one I can remember seeing in forever. Maybe some are now starting to see the problem.

    But, yes, I understand the trade in/resale value on single axles sucks but it's better than a crashed twin screw.

    I was asked once if I had chains for my truck....I told them the only chain I have is hooked to my keys so I can lock the door when it gets that bad. I find you end up loosing more money and time going in to bad weather. But this is the joy of being a o/o

    Anyone notice anything about this vid?????
    There was another thread about CB radios and the fact that no one uses them any more.
    Also when conditions get that bad, you slow down and get off at the next available exit. Those mega fleet divers were just tooling along probably oblivious to the road ahead.

    While I can't agree that a single screw will ever do better then a true tandem no matter conditions or trailer type. The main problem with pups, doubles, a trains or b trains is you are dragging more then your packing. At 80,000 a traditional tractor trailer is 12 34 34. With a set of pups at 80,000 your gonna be nowhere near the 34 on your drives thus trying to drag most the weight

    My company says to chain or get fired. Here we don't have a choice. Day or night you chain and go IMG_4757.JPG
