Thanks, I'll check them out. I've been doing some research and I think I want to get a used Mac. They're pricey but I haven't seen anything negative about them online.

I haven't gone out to check the frame out but I talked to the guy some more and it looks like he won't budge on the price so I'll pass on that trailer. I decided to spend a bit more money and get something newer so i don't have to deal with this ####.

All that is corrosion building up between the aluminum and the steel hanger. It is pushing the steel hanger away. Its an easy fix just a little time consuming. You knock the bolts out and drop the steel hangers down. Clean the corrosion out straighten the hanger back up reapply the liner and new bolts. Its standard maintenance for aging aluminum flats. The older Reitnouers are really bad for this. Each hanger is usually good for a full 5 gallon bucket of corrosion.

They guy got desperate to sell and offered to sell it for 7k. I offered 6k and he called me back in a few hours and said ok. So now I have a project. I'm still going to buy a newer trailer but I figured this would make a nice backup trailer. The trailer was washed well and I didn't find any cracks in the frame. 1 axle has tires and brakes at 90% and the other is around 50% so I just need to fix that hangers. I'll probably get the 2 bad ones replaced and clean up the other 2. Found them for about $300 a piece.

I'm still not sure if I'll be doing the work or if I'll have a trailer shop do it. To unbolt the hanger, would I want weight on that axle or would I want to dump all the air instead? I'm looking at it and trying to figure out what kind of forces are applied to it. Kinda worried I won't be able to line the holes up again if I unbolt it and it moves.

I think you will do well at that price. Good luck to you sir.
4mer trucker Thanks this. -
Getting the pivot bolt out of the rubber bushing is more than likely gonna be your biggest challenge unless you got the special bushing press tool. Id put jacks under each side, make sure all air is out of the bags, unhook the airlines and just pull the entire axle assembly out so your not fighting it.
Sounds like a lot of work, but wait till you have to fight with those bushings, then you will understand.Oxbow, passingthru69, 4mer trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
Removing the whole axle isn't a bad idea. I'll just put a dump valve on both axles so I can raise one and dump the other and not have to worry about jacks.
I didn't really want to but couldn't pass up an all aluminum trailer for that price.Oxbow Thanks this.
