I'm not sure what the relevance was to your situation unless you happen to be doing this on a daily basis and yet barely able to talk 8 Miles locally in which case it might be relevant.
There's no such thing as the radio taking all the credit for how it performs. The vehicle is partially responsible the and the antenna is partially responsible and the guy's ability to keep his opinions to himself and follow instructions explicitly were greatly responsible for how his radio performs

The guy has no amplifier in his truck. Not having Hills between those two people is completely irrelevant. Whether or not the guy in California has a hundred foot Tower pushing thousands of watts is completely irrelevant.
When you talked from Canada to Louisiana which truck were you driving?

By his own admission he failed to follow instructions that were explicitly given by me for building a dipole.
If it was so simple as you would have him believe then his radio would be talking a hundred miles by now. I realize you're trying to discredit the technician and you're hoping that Craig will jump on your bandwagon. But I will keep pointing out discrepancies where I see them.
And by the way if a negative element from a dipole is connected electrically to the body of the truck you no longer have a dipole and you just have a stupid looking piece of metal hanging off the bottom of your antenna which serves absolutely no purpose until you isolate it from the body of the truck.

Yeap i know i goofed up but 99% of the time i get this info im out on the road working..Im not home nightly and got a short life to live so as i said before..Im on the fast track to figurein it out..
Yes im slow at it cause of above reasons but most of my time off is dealing with this cancer bs..Then whats left im usually workin tryin to make up for lost miles on the road n such..
I usually dont have access to a crapload of cb parts either so i have to order from usa or wait till im anle to find stuff..

10 different ideas on how to do one thing on here...
So what i forgot one freakin step or didnt see that the mount itself was NOT to be grounded..

At this point my life revolves around hospital visits and turnin the wheels to keep my pays commin..
Now with crappy weather,it dont help..

Ill keep tryin and i appreciate all the help offered from everyone..

Not trying to dis credit your boy could care less about him.... I saw what I saw and know what I know. The bottom line to me is the dip pole deal.....never ready by telling the truth which will set you free. Is getting a 6 mile talk receive by his own admission.... Craig's getting 8 miles.... their both actually doing better--- 3/4 miles better than a whole lot of members that are on here .. which is a 3/4 mile talk receive average for most----you want to blame anything for this blame the crap truck it has no grounding to it it's mostly fiberglass and cheap sheet metal... just about everything on these trucks inside and out is made outta plastic...
