OMG someone please help I'm going crazy. When you push the starter button I just here a clicking, sounds like at the magneto switch on the firewall. I've replaced that, the ignition, the push button, all new batteries, the starter and selenoid. I'm figuring a bad ground. A mechanic told me a common problem is the ground to starter or to the frame. He suggested I run a new wire from negative battery cable directly to the starter to alleviate the ground problem. Any thoughts or advice. It's cold as hell and I fear I'm going to get stranded.

I had a Century once, it had the battery box mounted on the frame behind the cab on the drivers side. I had a bad ground from the batteries to the frame rail right by the battery box. The nut was seized on the stud and snapped off. I had to use my mig welder to put on a new ground stud. Luckily I was at home at the time.

Get a set of jumper cables and attach one side of cable to ground post on starter then attach the other end to a good ground on the frame or if it will reach batteries do that.

If it's a Century or Columbia model try checking the relays in the plastic relay/fuse box that is mounted on the exterior of the firewall directly in front of the driver and directly above the left steer tire it's about 3"x6" in size. There is a relay that is specifically for the starter. Sometimes just by pulling out & reinserting the relay a couple of times does the trick (that cleans the contact points). Otherwise replace it & carry an extra with you.

Good Lord. I sanded down all the grounds. I ran a new cable from negative battery terminal directly to starter. I have replaced everything. Any other ideas? It started clicking again

Then take that stupid little relay off of the starter and throw it in the trash.

Just hook up the hot wire from firewall relay directly to seliniod on starter.

Trust me . Those little relays that come with those starters are crap and not needed.

Great starters but you dont need relays on top of relays just causes issues like your having
