Don't go to any trucking company that expects you to sign a contract as a condition of employment. If you do, and the agreement is to stick with them for a certain amount of miles or months, and you don't fulfill the contract, CRST will hit you with a bill for over $7,000 minimum. CRST also has a team-driver only employment, something that even the CEO Dave Rusch said himself is the worst driving ever. The Fleet managers and dispatch there have absolutely NO respect for the drivers and are often hostile, arrogant, silly, condescending and very unprofessional. Just about any trucking company you go to the Fleet management and dispatch are like this. They will play around with getting you home and properly addressing any legitimate concerns. Fleet managers and dispatch can give you ####ty loads purposely, and because of this, can greatly determine your paycheck. Team driving is the worst concept under CRST ever. Sharing a box with another grown person and dealing with hygiene issues, bottles and containers full of piss in the truck, trying to get a decent rest while constantly being tossed around in the sleeper while the other is driving can and will piss you off. You will not get into a truck and drive solo until you find a co-driver. After training, your Fleet Manager or someone in dispatch will give you a list of about 4 people that you'll have to call and pretty much interview each other over the phone to see if the both of you are a good enough fit to team. And until you find a co-driver, you will sit with no compensation of pay whatsoever. As a matter of fact, anything work related outside of driving the dispatched miles (determined company approved miles) is basically free labor. Trucking is piece work. In other words, that ELog device in the truck is a time clock you are regulated by but will not be paid for your time on duty (by the hour). There are MANY drivers out there who are conditioned in believing getting paid only for milage and not hourly on top of milage is ok. It is not. CRST is notorious for not properly paying detention pay (money earned for every hour sitting at a shipper or consignee after 2 hours). Be prepared to consistently see very low paychecks.
Recruiters will always throw that keyword "average" around to make unsuspecting potential new hires believe they can make a certain amount of money and you will get an abundance of miles. When recruiters speak average, theyre talking about the very top wage earners, not the median average, which is a huge difference. And there's a lot of variables that determines your pay: type of loads (drop and hooks vs live load/unloads), milage pay and Fleet managers and dispatch. Yes, recruiters are trained to talk up all the great and wonderful opportunities of a truck driver, BUT what they will not do is back their claims in writing and with a guarantee. It won't be until you take the job and they have you in the truck that you'll realize the reality of being a company OTR or Regional driver... how much they lie and and how greatly in denial they are when you ask them about the reality of trucking. These recruiters, as well as most fleet managers and people in dispatch, have absolutely no experience driving a truck over the road and therefore don't posses a CDL, but will tell you how great the position is.... a position they would never themselves want to ever have.
Here's something to consider if you want to find out if you're underpaid for all the hours you put in driving:
1.Write down all the hours you've used from your 14hr labor clock before taking your 10hr reset everyday from the beginning of your pay period to the end pay period.
2. Take your accumulated hours for the week and divide it by what you were paid before taxes for that pay period.

The total will be what you would have been paid by the hour for the check you received. Minimum wage is $7.25

Senator Cory Booker proposed the Truck Safety Act that imposes company truck drivers be paid by the hour in addition to being paid by the mile.
