a 6 month old nobody, couldn't even find but a few bits of info on them... That would have been all it took for me to run and run fast.
-
Time in business isn't always a deal breaker for me. Some of my best loads have come from fairly new brokers. The guy who owns it also has a 3-4 year old trucking company so if anything, I would've thought he would be on top of it.
-
I would call him everyday and be a pain in his ### until he pays!!
dlstruck Thanks this. -
I tell my wife to stay on top of all our invoices and never let a broker go beyond the 30 days. If they do, it's time to call. I also tell her to get a confirmation email when she sends the invoice and BOL, but she hasn't been always on top of that.
Once they go beyond the 30 days, email AND call them.
Ask them what's going on and don't let them give you the runaround or "She's not in today" bs. Once you feel you're getting the runaround, get right on their ##*, BIG TIME! Start giving them the strong arm talk and let them know you'll be filng on their bond if they don't send you the check right away! Tell them you want a check number when they say it's in the mail. Call their bond company anyway and let them know you may be filing soon and ask them for the ppwk to do so. Go after them like a pit bull after an intruder!TallJoe, whoopNride, bzinger and 2 others Thank this. -
And don't think this $75K bond protects you, it dosn't.
It just gives the broker more money to amass in debt before he has to get his broker bond cancelled.
Also, brokers bonds don't mean #### if:
1. you are doing an intrastate load
2. you are hauling an exempt commodity (produce, logs, lumber, etc. - look up the list of exempt commodities)
3. you wait too long to file on the bond
4. the bonding company waits til all the carriers who filed on the bond submit their unpaid freight claims and they SUPPOSEDLY "pay the oldest claims first", meaning freight SUPPOSEDLY hauled before you hauled yours and they provide no way of proving that to you - as happened to me when I filed on a crook's bond (I was the first carrier to file) and I got paid NOTHING when it was all over because they "paid the oldest invoices first"! That bonding company was Pacific Financial, so if your broker has them for a bonding co. and they are a crook, don't expect much. -
Read your broker/carrier contracts BEFORE you sign them.
Cross out every line that says, "Carrier waives the right to....(whatever)".
Why should you waive your rights? Do you see any clause in the contract that waives any of their rights? Of course not!
Cross out any clause that says if the there is a dispute between you and the broker you must agree to arbitration or go file and go to the court in their state. Why shouldn't you keep your right to file in your own state. Arbitration fee starts at about $700, so what is the use of that?whoopNride, bowhunter67 and rollin coal Thank this. -
Doing business with new brokers is a really risky game. There is a whole cottage industry of scammers whose whole game is to open shop, land customers, move 30-50 loads, and then skip town with the money. Obv they use stolen identities to setup the paperwork for the brokerages etc etc.
And then there are the guys who went to a 'freight broker school' that makes your average CDL school look like MIT.
And then there are the guys who have a new MC because the old MC is covered in complaints. -
Well at least it raised their DTP and changed their experience factor to D. And it shows the complaint value. Hopefully companies will think twice before moving a load for someone who can't pay a $700 invoice.

Does anyone know how the small claims process works when there are businesses involved? I've done it for a non trucking related issue and it was pretty easy. He's less than an hour from me so I'll go file in Bellingham. I'm guessing I file against the brokerage since it's an LLC?
