This whole thing is getting ridiculous. If one has it I agree with it. However far too many companies are are making money off of it.
I hate the CPAP

I don't understand how a trucking company can monitor your CPAP use from the office. I bought mine outright and must remove the chip from the machine and take it to my provider for a download of my usage. I only do it annually. Are company provided machines set up differently?

I have to use the CPAP machine, I drove for Schneider, my neck size was no where near the girth needed to be tested and I sleep on my stomach (and not tired in the morning and never nod off when driving), however over weight...apparently borderline so BAM!!! on the machine...I hate it also, however I have gotten used to it, I don't use the mask, I use the nose plug type, a bit claustrophobic so the nose plugs are the way to go.....sleep 4 to 5 hours, wake up rip off the mask (nose plug harness) and go back to sleep.....

It interrupts my sleep to where instead of sleeping 8 straight my sleep is always cut short and broken up.
The CPAP has made it harder for me to sleep.

I spoke with another guy who had to use the machine and is monitored, he said he would just sit around with it on watching T.V. or surfing the net to get his time in, I think it is normally 4 hours a night minimum....u can always go to a doctor, have another study done and then work with the new doc on getting off of the machine, go to your normal doctor not some cdl mill barely check your health dot card issuing fraud....who probably gets kick backs along with the company for CPAP use....

If you think is a scam just ask the sleep people what your AHI or Events per hour is. Then you will know how bad or good your sleep apnea is. You can also get a program called Sleepyhead and download your sleep data and see for yourself how your sleeping. You might need more Air pressure if your waking up still.

CPAP has pretty much saved my life, but it was not prescribed by some carrier sponsored program. Instead it came recommended by my private doctor.
Unless you are monitored by a certified facility, you will not know how you are sleeping. When I went, I figured I had this kicked, as all I did was snore a little... but the tests indicated I would stop breathing 130 times in an hour!!! When that happens, your brain wakes you up to start breathing again, and the process repeats. In my case, I was not entering deep sleep, the restful sleep the body needs to regenerate.
As for strapping your machine to a potato for 4+ hours... I'm not sure if that works, as I have received calls from my doctor to let me know that my breathing rhythms are monitored and are looking good, and to keep using the machine! They are able to monitor at my stats, as I also connected by the internet. I also have the little data card that records all of my events.
If it is needed, then it is needed. But I would prefer an independent facility recommend it and not a carrier.Treputt, AnotherObserver and Hermit825 Thank this.
