Anyone have a good program or spreadsheet for ifta/irp miles?

What makes it even better when I have to turn on a light to write the number down. Now I'm looking at the paper, not the road, with the light on so I can see even less, steering with one hand that's also holding the paper as the other hand writes down numbers that I'm trying to read from the shaking odometer, look down the road through a light-covered windshield and not kill someone. With all this electronic crap we have now watching us and buzzing if we get too close to a white line or buzzing because someone just cut you off and it thinks you're too close. They can't come up with some piece of garbage to record our miles??? WTF??!!

There is a big difference in using the tax laws to your advantage and committing all out fraud.

I'm like Bdog, it works out to close to a net zero on extra taxes paid. The fines and penalties are huge though. It's not worth trying to cheat to save a couple of dollars.

You've also got to keep in mind that scale crossing times, log books, and any other records can be used to check your IFTA reports during a audit. You've also got to be sure your IFTA and IRP miles match or that will throw up a red flag at the state.

Like I said above, the audit I went through, they were just making sure you were honest and were not being lazy about record keeping. I got the feeling if they got a sniff that you were trying to defraud them, they would pull any records they could to build a case against you.

Fedex makes us do the paper. I do the same route all the time, so the gps is just another piece of kit lighting up the cab for no reason. I'm lucky that in doing the same route if I miss one, I can just look at the mileage for the last time I ran that state and copy it to the new one.

For those that can't get to the laptop to get to your spreadsheet... if you have a smartphone you can also create your spreadsheet on sheets.google.com, download the app... and access it through the phone at your next stop. The greatness is that it's saved automatically and you can access anywhere you have a browser.

I'm a company driver for now and I keep track of all my trips on Google sheets to keep payroll honest, and do so through my phone, the laptop on the truck, and my home computer when I need to make changes. So much easier than always just having to rely on a single laptop. Just a suggestion...

I enter the number in the phone push call then hangup and it keeps a good log that way. Transfer to paper later. I use trip envelopes and add up state mileages on the back. I have maybe half dozen trip envelopes per quarter. Enter those into excel make sure it adds up same as odometer start and end according to my log and I know it's good. Make another spreadsheet that looks the same as your ifta print out you are supposed to fill in, setup algorithms and it becomes easy every time you file.
I can see about maybe putting up a new excel spreadsheet the same as I use. When I fire up laptop in a few days. Or a week. Whatever. On second thought I'd have to make another one for usa since you use gallons and I use litres :/ we'll see ...

Taking pictures of odometer might work.
I write down every state line and every place I stop.
I double check my GPS numbers per state, monthly.
    Good luck.

What if the odometer shows more than actual miles. It happens when the truck is designed on high profile tires and you change them to low. You will be off a few miles every 100 miles traveled . The trip reports for Ifta/irpa are supposed to show odometer readings. Calibration, but possible?
