I have been reading more and more about different cities, counties, and states going to no-idle laws and are hearing more about the APU's. The only problem I see with the APU's is the cost. They're not cheap unless you build one yourself, and then they can go upwards of 2500+. I was browsing and found an APU made by Comfort Master. Google it for more info, but here are some specs on it now.

    Heating and Cooling: 33,000 BTU's
    Air flow: 650 cfm
    Alternator: 120 amp
    Auto-Start Battery Protection: Standard
    Electric Fans: Standard
Fuel consumption: 0.22 gal/hr under full load
Fully independent system, 3cyl diesel Isuzu motor, has its own radiator.

The best deal they have on their website is under financing at $286/mo for 48 months! That's almost $14 grand!

Do you really think it's worth that? If you use 1 gal per hour and idle approx 4-6 hours a night, at 4 bucks a gallon (let's just say), that's 16-24 bucks a night, and if you run 250 days a year, that's 4000-6000 bucks a year.

Give me your opinions on these, guys. Yae, Nae, indifferent; it all matters!

The reason I posted this is that most units I've seen are around 3,000 - 10,000 BTU's for around 4-8k.

I checked out the Comfort Master and to me it seemed like the best one. I just don't think any APU is worth that kind of money!

One thing to consider is the price will only keep going up as more and more states go to the anti idling laws.

Check your fuel usage math. You would use approximately 1 gallon for every 5 hours of use under full load (which you would probably never see). THAT would be about $4.20 for the night or $1062.50 for the year (using your numbers).

    I'm just sayin'....

If it ain't a Thermo King...you're wasting your money.

We have 3 differant brands that I'm aware of...everyone wants a Thermo King

APU's need to be serviced/repaired. Thermo King can be serviced/repaired anywhere.

yeah, that's correct. I was talking about idling in your rig, sorry for the confusion! I should have stated that, but I didnt!

But yeah, that's a heck of a deal vs idling every day/night

I'm getting my TriPac installed in the next couple weeks. Supposedly they're going up 6% in the middle of Oct.

I bought a used Proheat for $1000 and put a $600 Carrier 13.5k btu low profile AC unit up on the roof and it freezes my rear off in here, even in the desert heat...It's almost paid for itself in fuel savings in less than a year.

I think the answer was in the first sentence of your post.

"I have been reading more and more about different cities, counties, and states going to no-idle laws"

I've got a Carrier & after they got a few bugs out from when it was new, it's been great.

I run a Willis, I loved it for the first year. Last week my truck A/C failed, with any other APU I could have gotten some sleep, but the Willis is plumbed into the trucks A/C and heat, leaving me with no A/C. I wouldn't urinate on the Willis if it burst into flames. There's no way in hell I'd buy one or recommend anyone else buy one. If I had my own truck I'd buy a Carrier.
