Hello i am waiting on a few things with kllm, a few transcripts and a phone call about employment verification. If i did kllm i would sign a contract for one year and get a scholarship for 4k for free cdl training. Whats the consensus on leaving a company before the one year is up to go to a different company.

You will have to pay whatever balance you have on loan. Not sure if the whole amount might be required also if left early. Thought you were going with prime?

Also if you leave before the year you may owe the whole balance. That's what happened to me.

There is no point even starting KLLM if you're already thinking about quittng.All you'll get of you quit is another starter company you'll hate because no good companies will hire you.tscottme Thanks this.

Im not necessarily thinking about quitting before the year is up. I'm just saying if for whatever reason the company didn't work out and I wanted to go elsewhere would it be best to at least wait until a year or two has passed and then leaving? I was going to go with prime but after talking it over with two uncles who are in the trucking industry they have told me that most likely kllm will hire me and even if they don't with my income i should be able to get the grant from the state for the community college

No matter who you work for, you want your work history to read in years, (1 year here, 3 years there, 6 years here and so on) whenever you have to use months instead of years, it brings a spotlight onto you.

Don't leave early. I don't know what the consequences of leaving early are, but signing on to a company thinking you can leave early means you have not researched that company and you shouldn't make a decision. To me it''s the difference between agreeing to have a fling on a vacation and getting married. Your entire day will be filled-up with decisions made by the company you are working for. Don't agree to be there until you are sure it's where you want to work. If you are not sure and you then minimize the problems you may get into by deciding you can just leave early, you have just volunteered for other problems like maybe a big bill, a company that aggressively enforces their non-compete contract, or true and harmful DAC entry or whatever they do.
Make a decision about your company as if you are going to be "wedded" to them for a year, good or bad. Have enough info about them you know what the bad is or that there is no bad. Don't listen to the guys that got lucky, jumped into a bad company, found a scheme for keeping the muck off of them and left telling you there was no harm. You don't know if there was harm or not. You don't know if they are bottom-dwelling drivers that would be dwelling at bottom-feeding companies by choice. If you want a good outcome or don't want to waste your effort in the industry, make careful decisions. Those decision add up to your history. -
You have an income that means you have time to make a good decision. Decide who you want to work for if all obstacles were removed. Then start working to get hired by that company. Having a backup company in your mind can make it more likely you leave when you have a few bad weeks. You will have a few bad weeks wherever you go. Your future success depends largely on picks good companies to work for.

This is not a 1915 coal mine. You quit when you want. Just line up another job before you jump ship and try to leave on good terms. Never ever abandon a truck.
If you want more freedom, get your cdl through the community college not through a company. It'll be cheaper to get your license and you'll earn more in your first year.
