Flip a coin. The moment it's air born, you'll know which way you want the coin to land.
I'd take the old girl any day over a brand spanking new truck. I drive a 14 year old Columbia now. If they offered me older, I'd take it.
But our maintenance is good and the trucks are taken care of.
Home daily compared to regional... Since I started otr, then went regional and finally local. Well let's say I'm not sleeping away from my home bed ever again unless a catastrophic event forces me too.
Being home everyday and having a life is the cat's meow. Happiness driver.
The pay, well that should be self-explanatory.
I will say doing the same thing day in and day out gets old and some days do drag. Find ways to make the day newer than yesterday and more exciting. Push through it because remember your day does end and you don't have to sleep where you work doing the same thing everyday.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
The pay is so good, because the bossman hires quality to drive his bread and butter. He knows that the quality of drivers can be trusted with older trucks and figures a driver may like more money than the latest bluetooth connected to the radio.
I'd be willing to bet the owner thinks new trucks look like #### and likes the look of the classic older less aerodynamic EPA hating trucks.
Turn a truck over from yesteryear, you know she's running. Turn one over from recent years, you think you have a baby Honda. -
Well i guess that makes the decision a lil easier....
Sounds like the regional deal you have offered might be a nicer option if you have family...You still get a bit of the highway and a ton more home time for a life...
Im a highway lifer and i missed alot cause of it..If i could be regional and not loose my pd i would do that...
This company thats offering you a job, have you asked if you can hang out for the day maybe do a run with a driver just to see what they think???? Might give you some insite as to dispatch/trk fitness and how the company is run.. -
I gave up a 2013 Peterbilt 388 with a MX-13 with consistent 5-6 day (or 2x 3-day) rounders for a 2004 Peterbilt 379 with a 15-litre CAT MBN* and M-F schedule, hourly pay and getting home every night in late 2015.
I went from a miserable driver barely sleeping to a very happy trucker.
I haven't looked back since and have only been given greater variety and responsibility. I feel like an asset to the company rather than just another driver.
*Now I drive a 2007 379 - 15L CAT NXS.Ougigoug, Lepton1 and SingingWolf Thank this. -
Local with a well maintained pre egr truck sounds good.
