we had pretty good luck with them until the acerts with the turbos breaking off the intake bolts. i think we had a run of broken rocker bolts on the first cats. i can't say for sure what we were getting with the first cats, but im pretty sure we had guys getting decent 6 +.

Thanks everyone for the help! Really appreciate it. Since I'll be hauling light loads on mostly flat land I believe I won't have too much trouble keeping my foot of the gas

If I go thru with the deal I will really appreciate it if I can get some more info on these modifications. Also on how I can get a hold of Haney

What is the motor tuned to? A 550 MBN will get 5 with a good driver, but a 470 or less should be getting better mileage. I'm not a mechanic, but from what I've been learning about CAT's in the last couple years, is that fuel economy lower than average means there is something wrong with the motor and it might need expensive work in the future (i.e. rebuild).
I can't imagine you could find a better truck though for that price though. It's an excellent motor, especially with a 6NZ ECM flash, and you can't go wrong with a single turbo CAT. It's not worth it to pull light van loads. That's a heavy haul motor. 100K plus, and will ask for more. -
It's stock at 475. Definitely looking into an ecm flash though.
