We just purchased a 1993 t600 for me to drive. I have never driven a driptroit. Mostly cat and one Cummins.

Specs for the truck are low pro 24.5, 3.90 rears, 13 speed and 450 HP 91 series 60.

What I am looking for is the optimum RPM range for cruising.

One thing that I noticed last night driving it home was the TAC went to 1700 rpm and stopped there even though the speed kept increasing. Yeah I was feeling her out to see what she would do. Got me to thinking something is wrong with the TAC.

Anyhow now that I am paying for fuel I have to pay closer attention. I will be testing different speeds to see how she does but I refuse to drive 58-62. I am paid by the load and have 10 months on this project.

I realize that I have to control costs but also have to perform. Keeping a round trip under $700 is what I am planning for.

Keep it in the 1450-1600rpm range at cruising speed. Your geared one step lower than mine on your rears/tire combo. Don't know what terrain or weight you'll be running but I'm gross 77-80,000 running in the hills of PA and upstate NY all day and mine gets best economy at 1500rpm if I'm in a hurry I'll bump her up to 1550-1600rpm and it really comes alive eats up the road but economy drops about .3mpg

There will be some hills but only one minor pass to cross. What kind of mileage should I expect? I only ask because I am crossing Wyoming and I want to plan fuel stops with a truck that carries 100 gallons less than the other trucks I have driven along this route.she does carry 200 gallons.

Is this your personal truck or a company truck? If its your own truck id say get in touch with leon smith or erich at ss60 and get the ecm tuned. I have a ddec3 in my pete and that thing was a dog and fuel mileage wasnt that great. Had leon tune my ecm and im consistency running in the 7's on mpg. Best money ever spent. And my truck is happy around 1500-1600 rpm as well. These older motors like them some rpm.

Lol, you think these motors like some rpm? Try an 8v92. That goofy thing loves it at 2100...

Get a scanguage D and monitor your fuel mileage, very accurate and available online for $125 up.
Make sure the overhead is set and you have clean air filters.
If you need ecm tuned I use diesel control service

A solid tune makes a world of difference in fuel economy and just overall feel. You will have an entirely different perception of that motor with a Leon tune, BW 171702 and some uprated injectors.
