Megas are one thing, but if you work for a decent small outfit or an owner with a small fleet, then I think you owe it to them to get someone else lined up to keep those wheels turning. I'm contemplating getting another job now, driving a truck for a great owner now. I'll give him open ended notice so he has a chance to find someone. There's no way I want to put a hurt on him or his family.
Regarding megas, I quit Swift last year without any notice. Left on great terms with a request to come back if things didn't work out in my new gig. It's all in how you treat folks. I had a great DM at Swift.

I am fixing to leave a major company after only 2 weeks, was offered a better job with local company. Company I'm leaving said I will be charged for orientation expenses so payroll is tonight. I am at home right now but closest terminal is over 200 miles. I dont mind returning truck once I get paid tomorrow but worried about reimbursements for orientation. Need paid tomorrow to drop off truck , also need my pay. Comments?????

Need paid, keep working

If you are paid tomorrow all that is owed you, draw your money then drive the truck back to the terminal and turn it in cleaned out and cleaned. If they do not owe you any further money, they can't deduct anything.
However, they may send demand letters stating you owe $???? as repayment for orientation costs. If you don't pay, their only recourse is to sue you for costs. Don't ignore the lawsuit letters, as they can get a summary judgement if you don't respond and have the court garnish your future wages. -
I treat employers as I have been treated. Current company, I will most likely have a candid conversation with the owner, and state my reasons for wanting to move on. They're constantly hiring more OTR drivers, and I've done pretty well so far, so I highly doubt I'll be fired. My landlord used to work here, and he's still on the books as a casual driver, 6mo later.
