Welcome to WalMart, TP just went up to 34.99 a roll. Hammer had to wait the weekend to load! Lol
Not really interested in aero-space stocks. I don't know enough about the industry to make educated decisions.
I'll stick to stocks that produce the commodity that has made more millionaires in the history of the world than all others combined. Oil!
Besides, I don't plan on living that long. He77, I didn't plan on living this long.
Who wants a gold plated retirement package anyway? Gold is a metal, it melts, it dings, it bends, it breaks, and it tarnishes. I'm more into stones, their solid, especially the valuable ones, my other investments are the very ones I service on the ice roads...diamonds!Oxbow, passingthru69 and johndeere4020 Thank this. -

I've made a lot of money on oil stocks over the years. Basically any time the general public freaks out and sells the crap out of an oil company... They are grossly underestimating the sheer size of the thing they are down about. Oil companies care about oil prices... Almost nothing else can really have any material impact on them.
Example: The BP oil spill. The stock of BP (which despite whatever they say is called British Petroleum.. this matters I'll show why in a minute) basically halved in price. Let's take the worst cases outcome for the spill: nothing can be done about it and the Gulf of Mexico's fishing industry dies. It's beaches are significantly less popular.
The total annual non oil economic value of the Gulf of Mexico is less than the amount of money BP paid its shareholders in dividends quarterly in those days. Also basically every middle class retired British person is a large BP shareholder, which means the stocks large dividend payments immediately had the undivided attention of the Brits. So BP wasn't going to be hurting for political support. Any scenario short of this would have about no chance of really affecting the long term health of the company and that scenario wasn't very likely.
You don't have to be Warren Buffett to see the angle there.
With oil companies you pay attention to stuff like how much of the oil they claim is in the ground is really there. Or changes in how much that liquid is worth. Other than that they're actually too big to destroy with a single catastrophic event.cnsper and Heavy Hammer Thank this. -
