Fueling is Almost always driver load and unload. I have went to some ethanol sites where the employees load the truck for you. You just tell them how much u want.
Sometimes if you pop up at the terminal at the wrong time you can sit there for 3+ hours waiting in line to load. Especially if they have the cheapest price on fuel that day -
It's all going to be on you, most likely. This is where paying attention is key. The racks are pretty strict and you must quadruple check what you are loading, compartment sizes, etc, before programming the machine to load x amount of gallons. This can lead to a dome-out or scully out. In the industry, that means your compartment might only hold 1000 gallons and you attempted to load say, 1500 gallons. Where would that other 500 gallons go? It would spill out of the top of the tank and you would have a catastrophic spill. There is a scully overfill prevention system, a probe that sits on top of the tank and it shines a fiber optic light to the safe fill level. If liquid interferes with the fiber optic light--that is to say, if the scully system detects liquid at the safe-fill level, everything shuts down and you'll be in deep doo doo. It's usually a meeting with the rack operator, his boss, you, and your safety manager. There's no grey area here, you have to pay attention at the rack.jacquesi23 Thanks this.

If you YouTube search this, Usher Transport has some good videos on how to unload fuel. You can also find some videos of how a loading rack works. It's basically the same all around.

How long is the training for newbes without tanker experience. I have 5 years of over the road NOT with the tanker.

Depends on the company. Most only need 2 years driving class a-any kind of equipment. I got hired after only 1 year of driving experience in a bobtail mostly.

I mean the fuel loading and unloading part.

I got three weeks with a trainer and was mostly dispatched on easy stuff for a week before going on the regular board.

I had like 5 weeks with a trainer. This is going to make or break you. My first trainer was a total d-bag and it didn't work out at that company.

drove a fuel tanker for 6 years,then tried to drive for fedex did not like it went back to fuel hauling won't make that mistake again.
