WebGal,
Good luck! You'll be getting your boots about the time I roll in for my training.
I do want to thank all the members of the board for all of their advice & input. It makes me feel more secure in my mid life crisis career change. Just wish I had the mid life crisis with the 25 yo blonde & the red 'vette.![]()

Well hmm, over 35 pages of stuff, not sure where those questions were.
either way.
1. Pets?
2. Dental, right away? Not sure. I dont think they have a set dental program...maybe they do. I know their EyeMed vision program is covered from day 1. Otherwise, you need to sign up under one of their HSA medical plans.
3. Earning potential...Depends on what you do. Dedicated, tanker, OTR, Team, bulk (aka tanker? lol not sure)...etc. Also depends on the miles you get...etc. Their webpage has earning potential.
4. after x months...also depends. You get raises after certain time periods, depending on what you do. Im not paid by the mile so I got a raise at six months, and then again at one year, and each year after that, along with any account raises. Plus bonuses.
5. Im not sure how long the beds are...Im five 9 and there is room left over, but there are plenty of taller drivers over 6 feet that sleep in them. As far as two people...lol. hmm. Well lets just say that the bed is a tad smaller than a single size bed. Thin mattress too.
6. prehire? no. They will hire you, contingent on your passing the school, OTR training, Final Exam, and getting your CDL. The two gals in my class had probs with shifting, driving (as far as getting used to teh size of the tractor trailer), and backing. They dont let you use markers to mark the ground as a visual aide either. If you struggle, you can ask for addtional help via a tutor.
As dumb as it sounds, take a lawn chair for an afternoon to a truckstop and watch some drivers backing in to some tight spots so you can see how they set up their...set up. -
Do U get chapped lips?

I am 6'2 and the bed accomidates me just fine. Like Ziggystyles said the matresses are pretty thin though. Also my g/f came on the road with me for 2 weeks and a single bunk will not fit 2 people unless they are 2 very small people. The top bunk is very sturdy though. I am 300 lbs and it is pretty solid when I sleep up there.

Im 300 plus a love tank, lol. 340. The top bunk is very sturdy, if you can monkey climb your way up to the top. If you have a GF, make her sleep there, lol.

Schneider doesn't allow pets at all in company trucks.
Baack Thanks this. -
My hubby and I share a bunk all the time. But then, I am only 5'1" and he's 5'9"....

Greetings. I have been reading up on Schneider for about the last year. Last month I retired from Chrysler in Kenosha Wi after getting 35 years in. My father drove OTR most of his working life. Now I would like to try it out. If my dad knew I was going to be going to a school to learn how to do this, he would roll over in his grave. That was one subject that nobody wanted to bring up when he or his friends were around. I figure that times have changed and now there's too much that has to be learned. Things have got high tech, and if not taught correctly there could be many problems, injuries, or even deaths because of it. I have the application right here on my desk, it just needs to be filled out and mailed. Most of my time in the auto makers field and the few years in the early 90's when I was a Nuclear Security Officer I normaly put in between 70 to 80 hours a week. For several months we worked 12 hours a day 7 days a week. Worked holidays, no time off. My wife complained BIG TIME! Now she is very eager for me to drive truck, eventhough I told her how long I could be gone. That's the only thing causing my hesitation at this time. Once or twice a month I drive from Racine Wi. to Menomonie to see my son and his daughters. Sure do see a lot of the rolling pumpkins out there.
Everyone have a great day, and a wonderful life.
