Get his own authority? OK jokes aside.

Go down to the port and write down the names you see on the sides of the trucks. Call those companies and ask if they hire owner oops and what the requirements are.

Join www.OOIDA.com which is a business website for the owner-operator. All your questions can be answered there.

Not to sound offensive but this statement right here is one of many reasons why you should get some more experience in the business first. It couldn't be further from the truth depending on the area. It just takes time in the business to establish contacts and meeting people who can guide you in the right direction. That also comes with experience. I rarely put over 200 miles in a day on my truck anymore and do just fine.

    amazing, just amazing.

If you want my answer, it may offend you ... but here it is - sell the truck and work for someone else because you won't do much more than drive it to your first break down and that's it.

Just sign on to somewhere they'll give you 1.10 a mile run your nuts off make 250,000$ a year and in 4 years you'll be a millionaire! Easy! Better yet, find a team driver and chop the time in half!

    No.

You may have heard this from someone that is leased to a company that pays a fixed LOW amount per mile. That is a recipe for barely being able to run two nickels together.

Instead try to get paid by the load on a percentage basis. The more the load pays, the more you make. Don't haul cheap freight.

If you spend time at the owner operators forum, you will quickly find out that total operating cost per mile can be in the $1.20 to $1.40 range. Try to shoot for $2.00 per mile to the truck (TTT) for all miles (loaded, deadhead, and bobtail).

Your old truck likely won't qualify to run with any company running OTR, as it can't run to California. You need to find local or regional gigs.

Where are you located? Are you willing to relocate?

Many years ago I had the exact same experience, at the exact same port, working for the exact same company. It's comforting to know that some things really never do change.
