So far winter hasn't cost me money on this account. I was worried it could with lift gate deliveries in the winter with snow. It does make those 600 mile runs unturnable often cuz of not perfect road conditions so less home time. Been through a few big storms already unscathed, knock on wood. Week after Christmas sucked. 2 drivers stuck in ND blizzard and another driver hurt so everything was thrown out of whack. I ended up spending Sunday through Thursday in the truck doing drop and hooks and shotgunning out with every run. Worst thing is only ended up with 2200 miles and 8 deliveries but didn't complain when I was given Friday and Saturday off.

I had a headway event last week (following too close). This was a tough one. It was accumulating time in rush hour traffic so not just one event. Try an explain as best I can. It was rush hour traffic and left lane was going 45-55 mph and right lane was going 40-45 mph. So I was staying in left lane since it was going slow enough and I wasn't gonna be holding up faster traffic. Lots of people merging into my faster lane and lots of speed up and slow down flow so every time the thing would beep ide back off a little to stop the beeping. This went on for about 5 miles and finally as traffic started moving I changed back to the right lane as someone was merging onto the highway and I misjudged how fast they were coming on. I never had to brake but they were inside that 3 second window. Anyways the moment I finished my lane change it beeped twice and flashed headway event in progress-recording data. When my manager reviewed the data I was one second from the headway window clearing.

I'm not sure exactly how it accumulates but last summer I got a kinda similar headway when I was following a guy on a 55 mph country road and he was going a steady 47mph. I was dropping back and running up till it beeped and backed off then trying to time a pass with the right situation and it never happened so after a few run ups it started recording. Again not a constant tailgate but nevertheless it stored the data. Have too figure out that reset window.

Ok it's been a long time. I got a new phone and cleared out my history, forgot my password and got one of those temporary passwords so it became a massive pain. Same same as far as job goes except I knocked down a stop sign just a few weeks ago in a stupid situation. Sign not a light so no damage but still had to do a police report so now I got that on my record. Thankfully no citation. Just got in a cenario were I was using up a lot of a smaller intersection and could see I was really bothering some over important women and got nervice and really sharpened my turn instead of going really wide and trailer took down a smaller stop sign. Not sure why she bothered me so much cuz I've been it that cenario tons of times and feels/sounds stupid but that's what happened.

February 22 was my 1 year anniversary. Made pretty good money for my first year. Here's the numbers
120,090.00 miles
Gross $67,996.74
Net $49,855.03
I'm happy with that considering that's all wage. I didn't get any kind of signing bonus when I started. Year 2 with pay bump 70k is very doable. BUT---- I've given my 2 week notice. Long and short of it is I've now realized the difference between driving a truck and being a truck driver. The work is easy and I like to drive but I just miss my wife and kids to much. 14 hour days, 70 hour workweeks, regional and home often but 2&3rd shift and 34-40 hour resets don't allow me enough time with them. I know I'm not the only guy in the world with young kids but it's just a decision I'm making for myself. I'm not leaving this job for another company I'm going back to my old job. I have zero complaints about JBH, ZERO! and would recommend this job to anybody. Lot of hours like any trucking job but there is money with JBH DCS.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
A little tip for you JBH guys on vacation time. I gave my 2 week notice 2 days after my 1 year anniversary so I just got my week of vacation and it makes things a little difficult. The account is short on drivers and for some stupid reason I feel bad leaving them short handed so I was trying get my vacation in pay. Except for a few states VACATION ISNT CONSIDERED PAY. Use it or loose it BUT drivers can take their PTO time and work also. So my last week I'm double dipping. Sucks to not actually get paid and not work but at least I'm not losing it.

My old boss came to me about 6 weeks ago with a pretty good offer. Basically home everyday 52 hours per week avg to make 60k. 10 grand less than I was set to make but daytime work and home with family. Driving is about 75 percent my duties thrueout entire year. It's for a very large golf cart distributor.

Oh yeah finally if there is anyone near Minneapolis Minnesota inquire about this job. They are short handed enough at the moment I'm guessing there could even be a sign on bonus.
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Good luck to you bro. Enjoy the family time. It's the most important.
GCDMN. Thanks this.
