The easiest way. Perhaps, the best. But I am naive enough to have qualms about it, I will talk to the broker first. On the other hand, I think that what matters is what BOL states (SLC and seal#....) not the confirmation instructions. I have one major flaw of being independent. I overthink too much. Maybe I should just tackle problems when they are instead of predicting them.

Whatever is decided with the broker, have him write it down and send a copy to you. I know it's rare that a broker is ever untrustworthy but you never know. :angel4:

I am sorry if this is painful but I would not tolerate the broker not telling me what the load is all about right up front, then adding things into the offer on confirmation. I am not in the business to please him but to haul to make money. My time is money, even if I sit with no load, it is better than being lied to by someone who doesn't want to tell you because you won't work for him at what he thinks is acceptable.

IF I was the OP, I would tell the broker if he wants me to do this, it will be an extra $400 or seal the load without me counting it and it is not my responsibility for any shortages - put that in writing with my signing it and faxing it back, not a one way offer.

    Otherwise ... Refuse the load.

To end the story. No I did not have to count it, shipper took care of it, sealed it and end of story. Too much overthinking on my part.

I think a lot of these unexpected and wierd broker requests are because it's in their "boilerplate" and they are just too busy or lazy to take it out. Boilerplate, meaning prewritten terms and conditions on a template.

I ran into similar situations when getting flatbed loads of Hazmat, the broker always insists the load has to be tarped. Who in their right mind tarps flammable totes? I never tarp them. Nobody says a word, except when the shipper looks at me funny when I said the broker insists the load needs to be tarped.
