Grounding is for electrical purposes.
.
.Bonding is interconnecting the large metal components together to form a large antenna ground plane or counter poise. It is best to use flat braid like a ground strap and keep the connections short. When you check from the antenna mount to the door, the door to the cab frame and the cab frame to the chassis frame; each should read zero resistance.
.
.Long sections of wiring can act as another antenna. And remember paint is an insulator not a conductor.

Counter poise is not used in mobile applications.
bored silly Thanks this. -
So what am I supposed to do scrap some paint off? Can't do that, I'm on a lease lol. When I made this post I was hoping to get a reply from someone who had done this to an international already so I could find out exactly what he did and where
-
Whoa whoa whoa----say what
-
They say that you can't ground on top of paint so I'm curious as to what I'm supposed to do now lol
-
That's exactly what a lot of people do scrap the paint off and take it down to bare metal... I did it on a Volvo mirror bracket to get a better ground
-
If your mirror brackets are painted and you are unable to scrape paint off to get a decent ground you might be forced to do something like this.
This was also an international truck.
I ended up Redrilling and tapping a hole at a 45 degree angle in the bottom part of the mount and reattached my ground element at a downward tilt at 45° after this picture was taken.bored silly Thanks this. -
True statement on a freightliner you can never ground too much...nascarfan29 and rabbiporkchop Thank this.
-
My mirror brackets aren't painted but they are held to the door with plastic brackets
