Had some transmission issues and was 5 miles to next exit. Struggled with whether to pull over and call or push for next exit. Advice?
Engine problem - pull over or make next exit?

Are the parts cheap or expensive? That would be enough to make the decision. Seriously, 5 miles is a long way when dealing with friction components, maybe check for leakage, smoke, fluid level, then decide. Did you pre-trip?

First, get off your phone while driving.
Second, company driver or O/O?
If company, how do they handle breakdowns?207nomad Thanks this. -
The list goes on and on. #oneofmany

Also, what's at that next exit? If there isn't a TA or other service center, then it's a moot point. Pull over asap and get it towed.
Do you want to save a few hundred on a tow, or a few thousand on the parts you may destroy?Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Moot, moot, moot... Few hundred or few thousand?

Would you driver your car with a flat tire at 60 mph?
If you know the answer, then use it for this situation. -
If it's your truck, pull over. If not, drive it until it dies.

Well, just from a safety standpoint, it would be good to get it off the highway. Too many trucks have been hit while in the breakdown lane, by people who are totally clueless.
I'd be less interested in what I might find at the next exit. If it's a company truck, and it will move, then move it off the highway. If you are an O/O, then you make the call.
Lotsa help there, huh...
But it is just one of those question where the answer is "well now, it depends........."Broke Down 69, okiedokie and not4hire Thank this.
