You beat me to it. Brain is correct tho, If the EGR cooler went bad and stayed bad for a little bit the coolant it dumped into the DPF could of plugged it or worse cracked it.

There is NO "legal" fix for the Maxxforce engine, just band aid after band aid from Navistar to get it through the warranty period, this engine was NEVER design to run period. Navistar and every IH dealer knew it before the first unit was ever sold. Hence the Lawsuit against Navistar.

No truck stops. You need to go to a dealer with a baker. Really dosent have to be a international dealer just any with a baker.

Working at a International dealership for many years and I have lived through the MaxxForce dark cloud.

If you just had an EGR cooler replaced because you were using coolant and depending how much and how long you have been driving with this issue. I would suspect your DOC has been compromised from the coolant and is not faced plugged.

When your DOC is faced plugged it will cause the fuel that is injected into your exhaust to pass through it without heating up before it gets into the DPF. This will cause excessive smoke to come out of your exhaust, but will also cause your DPF to fail as your DPF should not have raw fuel ignite inside of it. One big sign is that your hot exhaust temp light will come on during stops very frequently which indicated a inefficient DOC.

Most people overlook the DOC thinking it's always a DPF problem. However the DOC is needed to heat up the raw mist of fuel to heat up and bake the DPF while driving. I would not recommend baking the DOC to fix this as it is just a bandaid fix, I would also have them check the cell depths of the DPF. If they are not consistent and deep then odds are your DPF is melted on the inside. No matter how much you bake and clean it will never work properly.

Lasty good practise and maintenance is to clean the AFI which is the injector at the rear of the turbo. I would clean this once a year by pulling it off and making sure the bore is clean and even replace it every second year. A small investment to keep your aftertreatment healthy and working efficiently.

Looks like you might have more of an issue with your engine. Do you have any other symptoms? Using coolant or oil?
