2 days ago I was talking to a tow truck driver and I asked him how many calls out of 10 were for emissions related issues. Right away, without even thinking about it he said 9. Then he thought about it and said probably 9.5. Even if gliders didn't have a high resale value, while I own it, I want a reliable truck...i make my money while I'm driving it, not when I sell it.

Just out of curiosity, how would a tow truck driver know why the truck was down? 95% of the drivers who enter our dealership don't even know why their own truck is down.

Speaking as a dealership employee who does warranty on these things, I see plenty of non-emissions failures, and I think that tow truck driver is making up numbers :)

Given that the name on his truck was the same as the name of the only shop in town, I'm willing to bet his numbers are pretty close

Had a son of a small fleet brag about only buying Petes , because of the trade value . Told him the extra cost of fuel over the trade cycle , he sell his and we could burn ours , and we would still be 10k ahead each.

I'm kind of curious as to why people seem to have so many emission related issues in trucks? Honestly we don't see many emission related failures in the construction equipment we maintain. Yes I know off road and on road emission standards are 2 different beasts but most of the equipment in our fleet has been relatively trouble free apart from needing an occaisional DPF baked or an EGR valve replaced. Heck I've only ever had to force half a dozen regens in the last 2 years.

That would mean his shop has all the different computer software for all the truck brands.
    That would be a first.

I was refering to off road construction equipment. Some of our DPF equipped construction gear has hit 7-10k hours and only ever needed a DPF cleaning. I just find it weird that the new emission stuff on the equipment side seems to be less troublesome than the equivellent emission standard in trucks.
