Not so, when the company sets up a pre-pass transponder they have to send in all the information about the company DOT number ext.. The DOT number then is entered into the system with that truck number and transponder number (lic plate number ext..). They can pull up all that info in an instant... They can select specific companies known to pull flatbeds as well... The system is designed to be A complete information system not just to weight a truck... Every time a transponder is read it that scale house knows exactly what truck that is in that company... (of coarse if your company has yo pick up van, flt ext.. with that same truck then of coarse they would not know what trl you have but they would know everything about that tractor, company name, safety stat ext...)

MT flats sometimes don't register on those weigh in motion scales. I used to have the same problem sometimes in a daycab mack pulling an mt dry bulk tanker. Tractor and trailer together was only 27,000 lbs.

This is what I mean by almost impossible.

They would have to decide which company hauls what kind of trailer & go through & enter the companies manually & then they'd have to set the AVI accordingly. It seems a far stretch to me...I dun-no? Guess any thing's possible.

When I hauled a flatbed we didn't use Prepass, I went through them all.

The scalemaster may have asked them if they had a permit for that piece of equipment.

    Ya reckon? :biggrin_25523:
Mighta wanted to check the manifest to see if that load was
    listed on the BOL.
My bet is that the flatbed driver had his son fill out the proper paperwork though.
    He seemed pretty thorough.

The load was chain-bound, so I'm thinkin' that wasn't the problem.
I think they all had a good laugh.
YeS, even SOME scalemasters DO have a sense of humor. :yes2557:

This topic is close to my situation. I drive a day cab, and usually pull a 48' reefer. Empty weight is about 35,000 pounds. But, for some reason, sometimes when I enter a weigh station EMPTY, they will pull me up to the scale and make me sit there for a minute. Really irritating! I feel like yelling, "I'M EMPTY! WHAT THE HECK?"

I used to do that, until I was told by a friend of mine that one of his friends was given a ticket by an anal DOT person. Seems as if that clown thought he needed a BOL with freight description and pickup and delivery info on it.
I decided I didn't need the hassle just to look cool.

Alot of the scales use a prepass weight that is set up. If you cross the prepass scale and your weight falls below minimum requirement as most flatbeds will. It automatically thinks that you missed the first scale and pulls you onto the main scale. Being MTY usually means just a waste of a few seconds. Think a flatbed can be as low as 26k while even a light van is 31k and a light reefer is 33k so if the scale is set up to pull anyone less than 30k or over usual set is 77k onto the scale then you just got the luck of the draw. Also most scales can set it up to automatically pull every x number truck onto the scale. And a few even use cameras to detect violations in equipment so the officer can have a closer look. This being said I hope it helps

Makes me wonder if those types take their uniform and badge off
    when they take a shower.
All work and no play makes Deputy Fife a dull dweeb.

    HaiL!
After writing that citation you described Brickman, I bet he went
home, opened a brewski, and told the story to man's best friend.
    And his ONLY friend.

    Bow-wow & woof woof.
(Roughly translated: You're a moron, master.
But as long as you feed me, I'll make like I'm listening.
