There's no such thing as a Hazmat certification outside of what the MVA or DMV (Whatever you call it in your state) offers. It's tagged on to your CDL after you take a written test and undergo a background check.
Certain companies have taken the regs that require companies to give yearly refreshers to employees and claimed to be able to give those refreshers and/or certify you as a hazmat instructor. It's bogus as there is no such thing as a certified hazmat instructor given out by D.O.T.
Go ahead. Ask me how I know all this.<----sucker

Never heard of it either until now. We certainly don't require it. If you have the endorsement, you're expected to know your job. End of story.

INITIAL TRAINING
A new hazmat employee who changes job functions may perform those functions prior to completion of training, provided the employee performs those functions under the direct supervision of a properly trained and knowledgeable hazmat employee; and the training is completed within 90 days after employment or job function.
RECURRENT TRAINING
Employees must receive the required training every three years or any time there is a change in job function.
Here's the interesting thing. There was an online training course available here:
https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hazardous-materials
Under training and education. I started that course and it was buggy as heck, as well as having wrong info on some of the slides. I think they got tired of me emailing them.
Now I see they are going with a "for fee" company. Did someone's palms at the FMCSA get greased?? It's a friggen powerpoint and quiz.
Be funny if you drivers hauling HM were to swing by the office and ask to see your training folder. Probably didn't even realize you attended that "refresher training". All good until there's an accident, and someone asks how you did refresher training when your electronic logs show you on the road three hours away.
Just sayin' -

At least I didn't pay them any money! (He retorted, as he arched his chin somewhat defiantly into the air while brushing back his long, golden, Fabio-like locks with one hand)
