If you were both at speed, AND he rear-ended you hard enough to total his truck, he must have been really moving.

I'd even get the truck checked out. Most of that force was likely put directly to the king pin and to the tractor 5th wheel and frame.

I did this in my car years ago. Rear ended a van trailer on highway. Totalled my car and scratched his dot crash bar and I got a ticket for unreasonable speeds for conditions It was a clear night dry roads. It was a trooper too. so it's crazy he walked away with no violation at all. Such as tail gating or distracted driving. Guess they decided his company would do worse than the ticket.

    Uhh yeah?

He rearended a tractor trailer and he thinks the tractor trailer should have gotten a ticket too...

    Makes perfect sense.

I wrote that half asleep. I feel the driver of the truck who rear ended the OP should have been ticketed. He was breaking a law of some sort. I was just giving personal experience of when a situation like the OP is going through turned out differently. I assumed the truck that rear ended the OP was a company driver and one would think his company safety team will deal with his accident accordingly.
