There are totalitarian elements on both sides. Left/right is only one axis; there is also an up/down axis with libertines at one end and authoritarians at the other.

My husband has been there for 4 years. Frankly, it is a great place to work, and about the best you will find in trucking. They treat the drivers great, and with the respect they deserve. They leave you alone to do your job. In 4 years, short of picking up your paperwork for loads, or having your 6-month or year associate contacts, you almost never have to talk to anyone if you don't want to. If you see the GTM, he will ask how you are doing, and if everything is going ok............... do you have any issues or any questions............... and he really wants to know. You make great money, and have great job stability with a lot of paid time off, and perfectly maintained trucks. Oh yeah, and they like to cook for you too.............. a lot. :)

The fleet is growing. At one point they were only hiring to replace the large amounts of retirements. However, now they are hiring more than that. No matter what you guys believe, the Private Fleet actually saves WM money over outside dedicated carriers. The WM drivers are always on time, in perfect safety (check their safety record), and drive to not damage freight. As such, they are trying to take on more of the dry grocery loads, and reducing the amount of seasonal dedicated.

As for cameras, the driver / forward facing test program has been delayed due to issues with that companies cameras. The forward facing only test DC's is still a go.

You get some older drivers that pine for days gone by when their was a lot more distance driven between DC's, and a lot less store deliveries. It is just different. Things do change, and WM is always trying to be more efficient. My husband makes about $90K a year out of a lower paying DC, and there are still a lot that make over $100K.

In case you haven't already found it, Wal-Mart has their own section here.

    https://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/forums/wal-mart.255/

Lots of info to be found there.
