Probably the funniest part of this thread is that Ibrokeit is getting 25% of his brokerage. That is seriously low. His 4k a week puts him easily into the top 10% of individual freight brokers in the US and is worth 2400 dollars a week to someone without a noncompete in the open job market.

That's the TQL model though. Hire a ton of college kids, and throw them at a wall and see who sticks. The bar for sticking is set high so that most of them fall off and then their accounts get given to the lucky few survivors who then work that freight for 20% (they get less when the account wasn't landed by them).

20-25% is livable, but only if you're doing a LOT of brokerage. Of course if you were doing a LOT of brokerage outside they'd be getting 60% not 25%.

EDIT: None of this is to say that new people shouldn't go work for TQL. It's a chance to learn the business. It's actually a LOT like having a trucking company pay for CDL school in exchange for a contract. Except that TQL makes you sign a 1 year noncompete which makes it very hard to switch. It's probably worth it though. And it's not like their competitors don't also make you sign a noncompete. When I hire my first real employee in May you bet your ### he's signing a non compete. The industry is FILLED with TQL alumni these days. If it worked out for all of them in the long run it can't have been that bad a call.

SECOND EDIT: What I'm trying to say is that TQL is the CR England/Schneider/Etc of the brokerage world. It's a massive company that provides thousands of people with entry to the industry every year. Unfortunately it's entire business model rests on getting its employees to work for 1/2 the market rate for trained employees which makes retention problematic.

With regards to crappy trucking companies I've gotten to a point where I'm so frustrated with the operational competence I see from carriers that I'm actively exploring starting a dispatching/factoring operation to get direct access to more actual truck drivers.

Haha I was always looking with a joy to those fun people, who seat belt strap soft toy bears to the passenger seat. Apparently they are not fun people, they are just crooks pretending to run a team operation!

I'm pretty sure the second body was a real living breathing person. There was only one person in that truck when it showed up at delivery almost 2 days late... And they refused to tell us the location or an ETA on the truck once it was late. Made it actually impossible to manage the situation with the customer. They were a 'good carrier' on paper too (like I'd use a bad one for my third load with a F500 company moving strawberries... I was green but I wasn't a drooling idiot)

As a driver hearing stuff like that is downright embarrassing and I'm sorry that happened to you. I'd rather pull out my fingernails with a rusty pliers than pull somethin like that. Cuz I wanna be in business next month, and dang strawberries always was a GOOD paying load.

It happens. Just like the crappy broker who lies to you about when a load will be ready. The reality is that this is a very difficult business that routinely puts people in very tough situations. Most people aren't smart enough, don't work hard enough, or have better options and quit. This means that this is one of the few businesses where seniority really is an excellent indicator of someone's character. That isn't to say that there aren't some old scumbags out there, but most of them are extremely large either in size or degree of scumbaggery. The really really shady ones are actually just career scammers not transportation industry people IMO.

EDIT: This applies equally to everyone in the logistics industry. Brokers, drivers, dispatchers, and the owners (of both the brokerages and the trucking companies). Heck it applies to most competitive businesses with thinner margins like logistics.

With my limited experience,TQL people sound unkind over the phone, they lack patience, they can't listen. They are trying to be tricky too,. For example, promising to call you back in 10 minutes, so you sit tight, and they never call you, wasting your time. Where is that training they had? CHR are like credit cards reps, very pro, but also cheap. Therefore, as sensitive and delicate as I am, I did haul for CHR at times, but not for TQL yet. I'd prefer not to do it for neither, but who is going to help me out in #### Ft. Myers, FL. LOL. By the way, to compare the two, I don't see that much hate here with regard to CHR.

Not sure how you would have handled this? You bang on the driver and the company but had no solution? As a driver I would have been in sleeper berth while waiting. I'm sure after hours of sitting I would have even known I needed to rest. I could have split my sleeper and continued on my way. Its difficult to beat up a driver under federal rules and a clock. It's all about common sense, besides brokers lie all the time, THEY DON'T CARE IF A DRIVER VIOLATES, they only care that they covered the load, then the rest is the drivers burden. Brokers go home and have a beer....I'm just saying.........
