Now here is what I deal with when I go to my other home in Thailand. If I know that we will be there more than 60 days, I apply for a tourist visa. I send my passport to the visa company and pay them a fee to do the legwork. So I'm good for 60 days, I then can go to a immigration office and get another 30 days. Now when I'm there I make a copy of passport with my visa page. The reason is if I get stopped by police or official and not have it, I can get sent straight to immigration jail. No ticket and show up for court. Straight to jail.
There are other countries like this as well. Trust me I make sure I have my visa stamps current
Now my wife is a legal resident here in the US. Her permanent green card is good for 10 years, which her renewal is coming up. So we have to apply for another 10 years and pay the fees and have her go for another interview again
So be legal or go to jail. How hard is that

Yep...permanent green card = Form I-551 10 years. If she were active or active reserve, the fee would be waived, but the renewal would still be required. Good job sir! Doing it the legal way!lonewolf4ad, coastietruckin', misterG and 1 other person Thank this.

Last year I completed a project in Chile and we had to renew our visas every month. And the general contractor would revoke our site access if our visas were not renewed. That's the way it has been done in pretty much every foreign country I've worked in.coastietruckin' Thanks this.

Could you vote there without an ID? Scream racism.....lolnot4hire Thanks this.

Otherhalftw, when we first talked about her coming over to see if she liked the US and my work, we talked about the visa process. We went with the K 1 visa
I told her it took about 6 months to even get an interview once the paperwork got started. She said ok.
I was talking with her one the phone one day as her interview date was coming up. Told her I would be there also. I then said if it fails I will fly you to Mexico and have a coyote bring you across the border. There was a long pause. I could hear pages being turned in the background. She then says why are you having a wild animal bring me across the border. I'm like huh. Then it dawned on me, she was looking in the dictionary the meaning of coyote. She didn't understand American slang. Bless her heart. I then explained what I meant.
She said no we do it right
So then fast forward 3 months later. She has been in the US now for like 40 days, visa good for 90. She says yes I want to get married, I understand your work. I tell her wait 20 more days. That was the deal. I told her the first 30 you will feel like tourist in holiday. The next 30 days you will settle down and then see how it really is
Now she pushing the getting married, I tell her, look we still have time why are you rushing this
Her honest reply. I do love you and want to stay. I know paperwork takes time.
My current visa expires after 90 days
I don't want visa to expire and I go to jail and get deported.. I start laughing. She was not happy. She asks what is funny
My reply was this, my dear there are over 1 million illegals here now and they not jail them, one more person is no biggie. She saw no humor in that.
Even now she states, why not take them to jail.
They have illegal immigrants there from Loa, Cambodia. There they catch them they go to jail...misterG and otherhalftw Thank this. -
Most anywhere but here in the US, jail is something to fear. Here, it is "country club" time....especially on the Federal side. They get satelite TV, 3 meals a day, play time, conjugal visitation,...the list goes on! If we were to make jail and/or prison an actual punishment...maybe things would change.
Another issue...personal pride, self respect, and respect for others....not as "common" here as in the (hold your ears @Chinatown ) the Orient...for law abiding peoples.91B20H8, misterG and passingthru69 Thank this. -
On the voting question. In Thailand you have to have your national Thai Id card.
Plus you have to go back to the address that is on your Id card.
So let's say you grew up in north Thailand and then move to Bangkok to work. Then then election comes up and your Id card shows you still live up north you have to go back there to vote.
The newer cards now also have the chips in them, like the new bank and credit cardsChinatown Thanks this. -

She certainly wasn't thinking of her children or the children
of US citizens when she got behind the wheel while plastered. Also she and her employer, CASA, are not "immigrant activists" they're "illegal immigrant activists", big difference.
She could care less if a legal immigrant to the US loses their job to an illegal immigrant b/c they'll take less in pay and benefits, and the companies that hire them aren't altruistic they are greedy. I'm fine with companies that focus on the bottom line but it must be done legally.
Another thing, illegal aliens are not undocumented they are just plain illegal.tommymonza, misterG and passingthru69 Thank this. -
I could never understand how people enter the country remain unlawfully present or EWI then say their hard done by when they get deported. Do the crime you do the time.homeskillet, otherhalftw, passingthru69 and 1 other person Thank this.
