There was a good shop set up thread in the garage section a couple years ago. I can't remember the ops handle. He's the guy from North Dakota with the white FLD and green Mack truck. Might be worth a search and resurrect it if anyone can think of his handle.
Subforum suggestion.

I could see how a shop talk subforum could be useful. Good place to exchange info on what tooling a guy needs to maintain trucks, advice on organizing and utilizing shop space etc.
dngrous_dime Thanks this. -
As for other topics I would start. I would want feedback on a welder selection, air compressor selection, and maybe a genset.
Questions about what people would consider a minimum shop size for just a tractor, how much cold storage, concrete thickness, waste oil heaters, insulation type, lighting, sources for heavy-duty jacks, etc. -
Good places to buy tools, what tool brands to buy/avoid, how big of a bar to build in the shop for happy hour etc.
dngrous_dime Thanks this. -
I know for certain things, Harbor Freight is acceptable. For others, name brand or nothing.
As for the bar? As big as possible would be my first guess.Big Don Thanks this. -
Harbor Freight is awesome... For tools I plan on using once or twice. For anything I plan on needing and keeping longer though, yea I get a quality tools.Big Don Thanks this.

@Ezrider_48501 is the one you are thinking of, I could be mistaken though. I have noticed he doesn't come here as much as he used to. He might be busy with other things. I know he was active when the oil field was rockin but that has since took a dive. I was kind of wondering if he was still pulling side dumps and such.

That's it thanks. I'll do a search and find that thread when I get a chance.

What's harbour freight? Don't think we have them around here.

It's cheap Chinese tools.... If you're just buying a sledgehammer, they're great. Precision micrometers, I'll stick with Enco at a minimum.
