Ok, to all you potential newbies out there that are considering signing on with one of the big mega carriers;
Most, if not all are considered 'bottom feeders', that is, they don't pay much more than minimum wage while at the same time, they will work you like a dog.
But, you will get much needed experience.
That being said, Knight might be better avoided completely. The extremely low pay for your own valuable time in an orientation is a direct indicator of what is to follow, if you were to sign on with them.
Check out as many other companies as possible. There are plenty of them out there.
Knight Orientation Pay:$150.00 for Three Long Days!

They pay for hazmat $85 and TWIC $125 and post hire DOT physical renewals and endorsements.
They are not the best or worst. But the people out of Portland that can handle a 14/3 schedule make $1000 to $1400 a week + .05 in bonuses that are not hard to get.
A non- student starts at .38 or .43 with bonuses2650 avg per week which she (friend with 12yrs at knight as a driver) says is avg on the company board in Fairview OR. $12,084 per qrtr add $1590 for bonus? $54,696 per yr with bonus $48,336 without. 64% get all bonuses 29% get half and the rest get less the half. You will probably lose the fuel bonus in the summer (noAPU)
This is for a new driver not guys there a year or more. This does not include any accessorial or vacation pay that is gross divided by 52. Nor does it incude sliding scale for under 500ml runs or stop offs
My friend in Visalia Ca who went back to work for them after trying local makes .43 after 2 yrs runs 14/3 and made over 60k last year. He works out of Tulare The median family income is like 52k for the country. I am not a recruiter nor do I work there. But on the I-5 corridor talk to the knight drivers that look like they belong in a truck. I made good income at every OTR carrier I worked at. It was all the micromanaging donuts I did not like.Last edited: Feb 28, 2017
