How come you only get Layover pay if your stuck away from your home Terminal??? I feel like if I'm on hometime and my hometime is up and it's time for me to get back to work but there are no loads available for me to take then why should I be penalized for that? Layover pay here at Schneider is only $65 per day. Just cause I'm at home and technically "not working" I'm still available for work meaning every freaking hour I'm checking online to see if a load was sent my way, meaning I can't start my day or make other plans because at any given time a load could be sent my way, I can't take care of business because a load could be sent my way. So basically I'm just "Available" but not getting paid for it. I know some people will laugh but I'm just trying to understand this whole concept.![]()

I'm assuming your dbl told you it's not available. That's.. not quite true. They can pay it out to you if they want to. Make them want to.
ExOTR, milehunter43 and Thull Thank this. -
I will have to try that tactic

I'm serious. I've managed it out of loads where I didn't sit for 24 hours but could have just to make a point. Example of this weekend: get unloaded at 9am and at 2pm sent a pre that didn't load until 1pm the next day and it's 3 hours away. I tell them that it needs to pay layover and ask if they'd rather me sit till 9am the next day and then leave to get loaded or go there now and then sit.Toomanybikes, Thull and mindes Thank this.

Wow. If it were me, I'd tell them to shoot me a text if/when they come up with something and then I'd go about my day. Last thing I'm going to do is waste a day or two sitting at the computer "checking" to see "if" they managed to find a load for me to do.
I'd MUCH rather sit @ home "waiting" than at some podunk truck stop in BFE, though...Friday, rearview, TROOPER to TRUCKER and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've had similar situations like that happen to me!ChaoSS Thanks this.

Wow 65 a day layover I get 250 a day layover thank god I lease my truck and work for a good company
-
Well.. were both company drivers at SNI. So......
Not bashing your $250 and not saying $65 is amazing, just sayinThull Thanks this. -
I'd compare it to working any other job. When work is slow and you don't work as many shifts, you don't get paid because you aren't working.
I'd tell them they need to call when they have a load available. I work for a company where my hometime is almost always a load that has more time than it needs and I'm at the house over the weekend. Meaning I know when I'm leaving the house and where I'm going because I'm already on the load. On the rare situation that I'm at the house empty, however, my dispatcher will call me when he needs me to move again.Friday Thanks this. -
My pplan comes in on my phone as a text message. I don't need to consult the internet.
Maybe they should update things to free you up a bit?
And if you are coming off home time and waiting for a load, what 'business' is left to do?
Enjoy the time at home until you get a load.
Chill out, dude.
Because the load sent to the last driver on the list might be an accident in progress. You not getting it may save your butt.
Maybe God is simply watching out for you and yours.G13Tomcat, scottlav46 and Thull Thank this.
