Many truck GPS’s (Garmin, Rand McNally) have IFTA record keeping built in. Even if you don’t enter your fuel stops in them they will record the mileage in each state automatically. Worth it IMO even if you don't enter your fuel stops in them or use them for routing as you don't need to try to remember to write down mileage each time you cross a state border.

Or voice recording app on phone. I've never had a smart-ish phone without one native, but there are lots to download. Same as cellphone use... one button access.
As for recording and filing, I used a service that was $25 per month per truck. They supplied a GPS device and did the filing, all we had to do was send them our monthly fuel statement. Easy-peasy and I could watch Saturday-morning cartoons instead of doing paperwork.
Plus, there was a (limited) roadside assistance plan included. -
I learned this from YOU before I even started driving.
Hanging from my windshield with a piece of Velcro.double yellow and rank Thank this. -
And for the record, I'm old school. Put off the GPS for years until I found out this neat little IFTA deal. I still use a map bc I don't trust GPS. I only use it for IFTA. Still call delivery and load locations for directions. A GPS can you in trouble if you follow it blindly like a lot of drivers do.

Go to radio shack and buy a $45 voice recorder and say your numbers and at the end of your trip replay.

Ive been using this one for 4 years and really like it.I put my trips in it at the end of every week from point A to B and so on and it calculates the miles in every state for you.The same with the fuel. Then it puts it on an IFTA form for you at the end of the quarter and you just forward it to the state.very simple.

You DO realize that you don't have to write it down AS you cross the state line, right? Just remember the number 'til you find a safe place to jot it down. Don't even have to remember the whole readout...just the last 2-3 digits is more than sufficient in most cases.

Yes and I tried that. You Do realize that I'm dealing with some of the worst traffic in the country and remembering numbers isn't at the top of my list. They get lost while trying to avoid a accident every 100 feet, trying to move over 3 lanes of horrible traffic so I can't get off the insane ride. Ask me how I know this. By the time I get anywhere where it's safe, that's 12 miles and 27 minutes later.
