I have a 1995 Pete 379 with the 3406e in it and I've been experiencing an issue. I have a 15 over trans in and when running through the top gears, at about 1800 to 2000 revs I get a stop engine and check engine light. As soon as I up shift or drop into neutral the problem magically goes away. I thought it might be overheating so I checked the water level and that was fine. I'm wondering if it could be the trans overheating or maybe something happening when the turbo spools up? Any ideas?
Thanks

Why are you running so high in the RPM's?? Im guessing it might be telling you its time to upshift. Its not a honda ya know.
Caterpillar Cowboy, Broke Down 69, KB3MMX and 2 others Thank this. -
Sounds like engine over speed
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Pull the codes and you will know.

That's way to high engine speed for a cat good luck.
Caterpillar Cowboy and KB3MMX Thank this. -
I agree. 1800 should be more than enough. I run 120,000 lbs. everyday and I have no probs at that rpm.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Man that's screaming that poor kitty !!

In his defense, with a 15 over and a 600 RPM split sometimes you gotta run it just a little bit higher than the engine likes in order to get to the next gear.
If it is running up to that RPM under power and not going downhill then I doubt it would be over speed. -
Never knew that the check engine light doubled as a shift light!
