I just got my CDL yesterday and was able to talk to swift that came to my school. What are some good questions to ask for trucking companies? So far I am thinking about going to swift or warner.

Congratulations on the new cdl. Someone posted Werner is getting new trucks in with Tripac APU; that in itself would sell me between those two companies. Then there's the hair follicle thing to deal with.
crazybread Thanks this. -
Congratulations,use it wisely!

Werner never did wrong by me - 14 months. I can't vouche for @Chinatown's APU info... To my knowledge that's a 'Million Miler' club perk. I've moved along, but I didn't have much to gripe about - the usual #### it seems like you run into everywhere in this industry. The miles are there, just get a good FM and get in tight with him / her.
crazybread and Chinatown Thank this. -
I talk to a recruiter for both Warner and Swift and going to set up a meeting to check them out. I am going to talk to the safety department for both companies to see what one is better. That would be the most important thing to me that I don't want the company that I drive for to make me drive when it is not safe or pass my 11 hours of drive time.

Regardless of which you choose - YOU control these aspects of the job. You determine when it is safe to roll and your company can't force you to break a FEDERAL regulation mandating hours of service and rest breaks. Learn the rules, learn them quick and don't be afraid to tell an FM or safety guy to go piss up a rope. As politely as you can, of course.

I understand that but i hear it all the time that are tell you if you don't drive you would be fired stuff like that.

Elogs have put a stop to forcing drivers to run illegal. Companies can't lie out of it any more because if you run illegal the company is immediately notified automatically and it's on record.
-
I look up both swift and Werner both CSA score and swift has some violations on the 11 hours drive time.

Download call recorder.. this way you can record all your phone calls.. if EVER someone tells you to do something you feel is unsafe or illegal refuse to do it it is against the law and they can and will be fined.... If you for instance violated your HOS rules after a dispatcher told you to and ended up being I a fatal accident... That person would be LIABLE
You don't really run into it with companies that have elogs now I still here about people on paper getting HINTS that so and so can do the run I so and so time but it seems even those guys won't openly tell you to break the law... Also whistle blower protection and coercion laws look them up so you understand your rights...
.crazybread Thanks this.
