Need Advice (Ticket personal Vehicle)

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. I am not familiar with the Massachusetts vehicle code or the court procedures there.

BUT, what it looks like to me is that you have been given a roadside reduction of your speeding ticket to a failure to obey a traffic sign. So your insurance won't see SPEED!!! on the violation notice by which they will decide how much the thickness of your wallet needs to be reduced. Nor will your employer.

A quick perusal of the relevant code shows that this is indeed the case. The court will see the ticket and the annotated speed, however. That probably will effect the thickness of your wallet (assuming Mass. allows judges a range for fines).

So you screwed up and got caught. The Trooper cut you some slack. Your insurance company won't see SPEED!!! on your driving record. The fine may be uncomfortably high. What are your options?

You can plead guilt and pay your fine. You can plead not guilty and try to negotiate it to a non-moving violation or you can go full dummy and try to beat it in court.

My suggestion is to plead not guilty and see if you can get a VERY expensive parking ticket. If that doesn't work take your lump and move on.

If you fight it, you are a fool to do so without legal coun$el. First, you probably don't know what you have to do to introduce reasonable doubt that you failed to obey the speed limit sign.

Second, the cop could always request dismissal of the original ticket without prejudice and then issue the correct ticket on the spot. Meaning you are then fighting a speeding ticket, uphill in ten feet of snow and without a paddle. Best not to go there.
