Why do 4-wheelers insist on pulling up past the stop bar at a red light or other intersection? They pull up only to have me stop right before running over their hoods, and to have them get mad until someone (not me) backs up.
Why do 4-wheelers do this?

Funny you should mention this...Paco just pulled this crap in Dallas this morning, and it really torqued me. My blood pressure went from "normal" to "azzhole" in about half a heartbeat.

I'm making a right turn (tight) and this pickup comes the opposite direction, making a left toward me from the street that I'm turning onto. As I get about 100' from the light, Paco looks right at me coming, turn signal flashing away, and he pulls right up against the yellow line and the crosswalk, and props his elbows up on the steering whell and just looks at me.
Wrong thing to do before I've had my biskits and gravy.....
But, being the calm professional courteous driver that I am, I swing out real wide, pull up nose to nose with his truck, set the brakes, and propped my elbows up and stared back at him.
Why do people do this crap? I can understand the people that just don't understand or realise the size and physics of a big truck, but crap like this that is intentional......
-
I think the majority of the people do this because they are thinking about jumping the light.
But sometimes, I really wonder if they do it intentionally. -
Whatever their reason I wish they would stop it, and it would be nice to see the police enforce it.
-
Wait until the police is one you have to have backup. I have. -
For the most part, the police ain't enforcing squat. Had a 4-wheeler just the other day run a red light ( blatantly) right in front of me and an OKC cop, and the cop just cruised along like he was none the wiser.
On the other hand, I was making a delivery in Oceanside a couple summers ago...53' trailer with a Classic XL....yeah, I was having fun.
Anyway, I'm making a right turn, swing out real wide so as to leave light poles and such the way they were before I got to town. Turns out Muffin and Biff musta been late for their tree-huggers meeting, because he proceeds to shoot under me on my right and try to squeeze around the corner. Just as I see this little car, I also notice disco lights and the familiar woop-woop, but this time it was for the car and not me. So that was cool. Not the norm, but still nice to see. -
When making a right turn one time, of course the four wheeler was past the stop bar, I turned wide and ended up nose to nose with the four wheeler. He got mad and refused to back up, by that time the traffic behind him was starting to pile up. I actually had to wait until a cop showed up to make all of them back up so I could complete my turn. Sometimes it just pays to sit through the light and let them go. That's part of our driving skills is to identify a potential problem and leave yourself an out. When you deal with this kind of driving all day long in the city it pays to be calm or you'll have holes the size of golf balls in your stomach. We all know how some drivers are and we even know the law doesn't look where they should at times but as long as your not part of the problem then you're doing your job. However, it is nice to ##### about them to other drivers.
Brickman, Joetro and AfterShock Thank this. -
