Those redwing lace-ups are amazing, first time I ever heard of them was the railroad! They are required by some rail road companies!

Redwings are alright but they don't last. the most life I've got from them is a year, then crack and rip. Same goes for Chippewas and any other boot I've tried, Did hve a pair of hiking boots made in England that lasted almost 3 yrs but I wasnt out in the weather working .

I've went with leather due to allergic reactions from synthetic materials. So far leather hasn't stood well with the test of time even with oil. I too am looking for alternatives, ive got watch what they're made with. lining and all

obviously its the moisture mud snow that gets to leather. plus leather can freeze.

I'm leaning towards somthing like this for winter.with extras

That's an interesting debacle... Have you thought about going to a shoe maker and having some high quality custom made boots done up for you? Sure it may be expensive but it seems custom last longer anyways...

I get about the same mileage with Red Wings but they still last as good or better than any other boot I've ever tried. For comfort, it's Red Wings all the way.

Any boot will usually last a lot longer if you clean and treat them with mink oil often. I'll admit I don't.

I do use mink oil, apparently not often enough, I've tried hubbards too I can say I know how long of life mine have had.
