I shift when I hit the Rev limiter....
PoleCrusher Thanks this. -
I've got the dt12. Last 80k miles that I've been tracking it, I'm at 8mpg overall. And that includes using the bunk heater and idling the truck.
Maybe I just got the lucky truck in the bunch but I've really not had any issues with e coast jerking the truck or with getting the jakes to stay on while the truck is in auto. They do the 2200 rpm skip shift to 10th if I put them on high but other two settings they stay in gear unless I also hit the brakes.
As far as what I'd take? I'd rather have the 13. Mainly because of snow. While I know this auto pretty well at this point, it's not very comfortable never being quite sure it won't try to kill you when driving in snow and ice.
And yeaaaa the "never use jakes in conditions".... whoever came up with that line must have been driving that desk their whole life. I'm pretty sure they're trying to get rid of people every winter that way...Bean Jr., stevep1977, mindes and 1 other person Thank this. -
Your experience with this truck is exactly the opposite of mine.

Hopefully the engineers figure out a winter mode or something in the future... even then...
I once read a great post here and it went a little something like this... I would never put the trust of 40 tons and my life in the hands of a computer...Friday Thanks this. -
I always wondered why it's programmed to rev the engine up past the rev limiter for the jake brake. Not doing any favors for the next owner.
You run a youtube channel right? In one video you had a hell of a time sliding tandems one hole with your automatic? I was frustrated along with you lolscottied67 Thanks this. -
busted out the quakulator for some math:
1100 rpm with a final ratio of .73(13 speed) with a 3.08 axle with 22.5LP tires rotating 516 times per mile will give speed of 57mph
@1200 rpm same setup is 62.1 mph
@ 1300 rpm same setup is 67.2 mph
I think a dd15 @455 hp 1850 lbs torque would be very happy running there.... It makes peak torque at 975 rpm...
any thoughts? Issues with running up grade heavy?Last edited: Feb 4, 2017
yb226 Thanks this. -
I don't know where you got info that low pro 22.5 has 498 rpm. I thought they have 515 rpm. 11r22.5 or low pro 24.5 have 496 rpm.
PolishPrince Thanks this. -
pulling grade at 1600 rpm in 6h at ratio 1.38 with 3.08 axle and 22.5LP(516rpm) give a speed of 45 mph... that doable for steep grade i would think... in just about max hp rate for dd15 455hp...
sorry just thinking and typing out loud to have my errors in thought corrected, if any...Last edited: Feb 4, 2017
